Domestic Partnership Registry News
Your Personal Story is Needed! |
Mayor
Teresa Jacobs announced on Monday that she would not support a Domestic
Partnership (DP) Registry for Orange County!
Please help save the Orange County Domestic Partnership Registry!!!
Your story sent to Mayor Jacobs and the County Commissioners (it
may be through the Commissioners that this can truly be accomplished!)
will let them know just how many people care deeply about the inequities
currently in place and the negative impact on families and our community
at large! Your story can give them the impetus to make a Domestic
Partner Registry a reality!
Making this "personal" will
make a huge impact. You may use the same email to send to Mayor Jacobs
and cc the commissioners. PFLAG can make a difference by each of us
sending a letter - 100 letters from PFLAG and friends on our email list!
If you do not live in Orange
County, you would like anyone from the LGBT community to have their
families recognized in time of emergencies, etc. If you do live in
Orange County, you are her (their) constituent. Let them know.
Forward this information to
anyone you know. Come on PFLAG
Let's Get Loud!
Please take time now to email them at:
Teresa.jacobs@ocfl.net
fred.brummer@ocfl.net
scott.boyd@ocfl.net
johnmartinez@ocfl.net
Jennifer.thompson@ocfl.net
ted.edwards@ocfl.net
tiffany.moore-russell@ocfl.net
Or, write them at:
201 S. Rosalind Ave., 5th Floor
Orlando, FL 32801
There are also two petitions online you can sign and add
your personal story if you like:
http:/www.ipetitions.com/petition/oc-domestic-partner-registry/
http://eqfl.org/orangecounty
A Domestic Partner Registry would:
-
provide legal recognition
of families - this includes not only gay and lesbian families,
but also unmarried heterosexual couples.
-
provide inherent legal
rights, as opposed to documents that are often not honored at
the time of need.
Specifically a Domestic
Partner Registry would:
-
Allow Health Care Facility
Visitation (in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, surgical centers,
etc., within the county)
-
Health Care Decisions (the
authority to make medical decisions for an incapacitated partner)
-
Funeral/Burial Decisions
-
Correctional Facility
Visitation
-
Notification of Family
Members (mandatory or permissible notification during emergency
situations)
-
Pre-need Guardian Designation
(the right to be designated as guardian for a partner, or a
partner's child)
-
Participation in Education
(including the right to pick up their child after school!)
When businesses are
considering locating in our area, it can be difficult to make a case for
employees to move here. Getting on a plane in Portland, they have legal
family rights. When they get off the plane in Orlando, these legal
rights no longer exist!
Thank You for taking time to make a difference!!
