Hilarious, poignant 'coming
out' show to debut at JCC
Maitland, FL – On Saturday
night, May 10 at 8 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando in
Maitland will present MotherSON, a semi-autobiographical solo play which
deals with a young Jewish man and his mother and their evolving relationship
after he comes out to her.
The one-man show stars Jeffrey
Solomon, who effortlessly switches between playing a twenty-something gay
man and his forty-something -- forlorn -- mother.
"MotherSON is simultaneously
emotional and entertaining, hilarious and poignant," says Jennifer Becher,
the JCC's Cultural Arts Director.
“MotherSON is the perfect play
for skittish parents of gay and lesbian children," wrote the Chicago Free
Press. "Solomon is deeply convincing in the dual role he has created here…he
is so believable, we forget we’re watching only one actor.”
A discussion will be held
after the performance with Solomon and the Orlando Chapter of PFLAG,
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
The performance will take
place in the Harriett & Hymen Lake Cultural Auditorium at the JCC at
851 N. Maitland Ave. Tickets are $50 for VIP front row seats, $10 for
members of the JCC and $12 for non-members, and are available online at
www.orlandojcc.org or by calling Jennifer Becher 407-645-5933 x245.
